About

Where Cricket Spirit Mindfulness began…

I first encountered Mindfulness about ten years ago. I am not sure that I truly “got” it until a few years later when I attended my first workshop. That was the “AHA” moment. At that time in my life I was not in the best place so I went into the workshop with a less than open mind. Two days later I came out feeling as though a huge burden had been removed from my shoulders.

Following the workshop, I read book after book on the topic, attended more workshops and took online classes. I took a chance and started teaching Mindfulness to my employees. I was amazed at how quickly they took to it and how it seemed to be impacting their lives – both at work and at home in positive ways.

That was when I decided that I wanted to share this powerful gift with as many others as possible. The rub was that, in my mind, it was one thing to simply share what I had learned internally at work. It was another thing to venture out into the public and other places of business. So I decided to study under a great mentor to earn a certification to teach Mindfulness and Meditation.

I continue taking classes and reading books because I believe that a true teacher is always also a learner and must stay open to new ideas.

So, why the name Cricket Spirit?

For one, Crickets are considered symbols of good luck in many cultures.

Perhaps more pertinent…Crickets also symbolize Mindfulness.  Finding one in your attic represents spending excessive energy worrying about possible futures.  Finding one in your basement represents spending too much time ruminating over the past.  Finding one on the ground floor—especially close to the hearth—is symbolic of being fully aware and engaged in the present moment.

The back story…

Once I had decided to start my own business, I knew I needed a name and a brand of some kind. Not being very visual, I struggled for a while to come up with something. One night while laying in bed and trying to think of one, I noticed that the crickets in the back yard where being exceptionally noisy. Plus there was one in the garage downstairs that was quite audible. I was momentarily annoyed by all the commotion and then there was another “AHA” moment. “I wonder if there is any significance to crickets?” So I picked up my smart phone started searching the internet and viola.

Interesting side note. Since that night the crickets, who had been getting louder and louder for several nights all but quieted the next night. Including the one in the garage who I have not seen or heard since.

Make of that what you will. Most importantly, welcome to Cricket Spirit Mindfulness!
