INTRODUCTION TO MINDFULNESS:

Where Ever You Go There You Are by Jon Kabat-Zinn

Jon Kabat-Zinn helped bring Mindfulness to mainstream western awareness over 40 years ago. He launched the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program at U of Mass Medical Center which is now taught globally by many gifted instructors. This book is rich with the basics as well as several suggested meditations.

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

Although Mr. Tolle avoids the term “Mindfulness,” this book is very much about staying in the Present Moment. A must-read for all Mindfulness practitioners.

Start Here, Start Now by Bhante G.

A nice brief and easy to read the primer for the new practitioner.

MINDFULNESS AT WORK:

Real Happiness at Work by Sharon Salzberg

Ms. Salzberg, like Jon Kabat-Zinn, was instrumental in bringing Mindfulness to the west. This book is a great guide for not only bringing Mindfulness home but also in the workplace.

How We Work by Leah Weiss, PhD

Dr. Weiss offers several practical ways for the busy practitioner to integrate Mindfulness into the whirlwind of everyday life in America.

Buddha’s Office by Dan Zigmond

A great book about life/work balance.

RELATED TO MINDFULNESS:

Steering Your Way Through Life by Thomas A. Beardshall

I typically lean more towards secular books but this one is a great read.  Mr. Beardshall, while being openly Christian in his practice, acknowledges fallacies and misconceptions in dogma and presents his teachings in a belief friendly format which welcomes individuals from all religious and philosophical backgrounds.

As an added bonus, NEW copies of this now out of print book which can be found used on various websites for hundreds of dollars is available exclusively via Cricket Spirit Mindfulness for only $35.00 each. Please visit our Store for details. Each copy we offer is personally autographed by the author. Don’t wait. Once our supply runs out, new copies of this beautiful learning experience will no longer be available.

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

Although this book is not specifically about Mindfulness, there are a lot of amazing lessons that are all rooted in being engaged in the Present Moment.

The Power of T.E.D.* and /or The 3 Vital Questions by David Emerald

Like The Four Agreements, these wonderful reads are not specifically about Mindfulness but being Aware and being Present is very much a part of the learning experience. I would recommend TED for the individual looking for life growth in general and 3VQ for business professionals looking for work/life balance.

DEEPER DIVES:

The Miracle of Mindfulness by Thich Nhat Hanh

Thay, as his students affectionately refer to him, is one of the greatest teachers of our time. All of his books are worth reading. This one is a good primer for the serious Mindfulness practitioner.

Establishing A Practice – The 28 Day Challenge by Sean Fargo

This series of guided meditations is a great resource both for current practitioners and those new to Mindfulness. They are brief at ~ 5-15 minutes each and Mr. Fargo leads us through a variety of meditations so it never gets stale and everyone can find some that will appeal to their needs and interests.
