Mindfulness For Each Season

The seasons are a good example of accepting and appreciating the nature of Impermanence.  The concept of “Embracing Impermanence” is a big part of being Mindful.  Accepting the fact that everything is in a constant state of change empowers us to engage in and allow the wonder of the Present Moment to be just as it is.

AUTUMN

The changing color of the leaves, the cool nights and the harvest are all moments to be appreciated as they are both beautiful and fleeting.  We must pause, recalibrate and allow the beauty of the Present Moment to unfold in front of us.  And while this moment comes and soon passes, we can embrace the knowledge that a new and precious moment is opening up before us.

WINTER

Winter is a time to embrace Stillness.  The fall harvest is done and the spring planting has yet to come.  This is a good time for reflection and meditation.  Sitting in quiet contemplation creates space for Gratitude and Present Moment Awareness.  Beginning each day in meditation and ending each day writing in a gratitude journal helps balance the wake/sleep cycle during a time of the year in which many creatures are in hibernation.  Just as each snow flake is unique and fleeting, so is each passing moment.  Take time to appreciate each one.

SPRING

Spring is a time when our minds want to get busy.  Everyday picks up more sunlight and the sights and sounds around us are in a constant flux of change.  Blossoms bloom, leaves sprout and the days get warmer inviting us to spend more time outdoors.  This is a good time to step back and recalibrate so that we can be Present to the constantly expanding beauty around us.  Staying engaged in and appreciating each passing moment empowers us to fully appreciate the splendor we are witnessing.

SUMMER

The beauty of summer is abundance of activities made possible by the warm weather.  This is also vacation season when many of us take to the road and sky to get away for a while.  Vacations can be very therapeutic and relaxing.  The planning and traveling, however, can be taxing.  Staying Present in each moment is a way to slow down the moving pieces and not become overwhelmed.  It is also a powerful tool for more deeply appreciating the sights, sounds and events during the trip.  Being Present with ourselves and others adds to the beauty of the shared experiences.
